to all you lovely
pooch parents

Do you know dogs really, really love snow?

Dogs absolutely love snow, just as much as they enjoy playing in the mud and rolling on green grass. Their incredible agility and joy in running and playing extend seamlessly to deep snow, making them natural snow enthusiasts.

1st Edition

The inaugural edition of SnowTails, India’s 1st and Only Snow Dog Race, unfolded its exhilarating spectacle on the 12th of March 2023. Against the stunning backdrop of Sissu in Lahaul, the race featured a spirited cohort of 20 participants, each adding to the jubilant ambiance as they raced through the awe-inspiring snowy landscape.

The cheers of a fervent audience echoed across the snow-laden tracks, creating an atmosphere of pure joy and excitement. SnowTails, a unique event in its essence, captivated spectators with the remarkable agility and energy displayed by the participating dogs and their human companions.

In a thrilling culmination, Froggy emerged as the triumphant winner of SnowTails 2023, showcasing exceptional speed and skill. Following closely behind, Chinky secured the Runner-Up position, while Leo claimed the Second Runner-Up title. The victors were accorded the honor they deserved in a grand Awards Ceremony that took place post the conclusion of the race.

Notably, SnowTails was organized in collaboration with Manali Strays, the sole organization dedicated to the welfare of stray animals in the region. As a gesture of appreciation, all participants were bestowed with free annual vaccination vouchers by Manali Strays, contributing to the broader cause of animal welfare.

This remarkable event garnered additional support from Raymond’s Bake Shop, a key sponsor, which generously provided delightful goodie bags to all participants. In a special gesture of recognition, Raymond’s Bake Shop also presented exquisite gift hampers to the deserving winners, adding a touch of luxury to their well-earned triumphs.

SnowTails, strategically scheduled on the sidelines of the Snow Marathon Lahaul, drew widespread media coverage from Wion, India Today, Times of India, and PTI amongst others, amplifying its reach and impact. The convergence of sport, philanthropy, and support made SnowTails 2023 a resounding success, leaving an indelible mark on the winter sports landscape.

2nd Edition

SnowTails in collaboration with Manali Strays, celebrated the triumphant return of the Dog Race for its second consecutive year, organised parallel to the renowned Snow Marathon for humans. SnowTails which was to be held originally in Lahaul, had to be shifted due to heavy snowfall in the valley and impregnable road conditions. So SnowTails was held on March 10th, 2024, in the picturesque setting of Jana Village, Kullu, and this year’s event exceeded expectations, drawing participants and spectators from near and far. Bark Out Loud was the official Pet Food Partner for the event.

Manali Strays, the region’s leading animal rescue organization, spearheaded the initiative alongside SnowTails. Operating across the valleys of Kullu, Manali, Parvati, and Lahaul, Manali Strays has been instrumental in providing crucial care and support to stray and abandoned animals. With a dedicated team comprising catchers, rescuers, paravets, and veterinarians, the organization stands as a beacon of hope for animals in need across the region.

At the heart of the Snow Dog Race was a mission to raise awareness about the plight of stray dogs in the valley. Often unsung heroes, these dogs play a vital role in the lives of tourists and locals alike, offering companionship, protection, and unwavering loyalty. Yet, they frequently face neglect and hardship. Through the race, organizers aimed to shine a spotlight on their importance while showcasing the tireless efforts of Manali Strays in advocating for their well-being.

Pet dogs ran the 1 km track with their humans in tow, providing the perfect opportunity for a novel outdoor bonding event between humans and their beloved pet dogs. Participants and their furry companions reveled in a day of spirited competition and camaraderie during the race. Doodle and his devoted human companion Sourav clinched the title of champions, setting a blistering pace that secured their victory. Not far behind, Leo and his steadfast human partner Daya Ram claimed a well-deserved second place. The event concluded with Gaurav Schimar, the Founder of SnowTails, presenting awards to the triumphant pairs and rallying attendees to return next year for another unforgettable experience.

The resounding success of the second annual Dog Race underscores the unwavering commitment to animal welfare and community engagement in Himachal Pradesh. Through collaborative efforts like these, SnowTails and Manali Strays continue to inspire compassion and advocacy for the region’s cherished stray dogs.

COMPASSION

Join us in making a difference for animals in need!
Let’s all believe in protecting, preserving and nurturing all lives.

Animals in India and around the world need our help!

Wild animals are disappearing, and street animals are suffering. SnowTails cares about animals in the Himalayas.

Manali Strays, a group in Himachal Pradesh, rescues and helps stray animals. They give them urgent needed attention, medical care and post-treatment care.

The registration fees collected from participants of SnowTails will be dedicated to the vital cause of sterilizing stray dogs in Sissu, Lahaul, by Manali Strays. Lahaul witnesses a significant number of stray dogs each year, especially during winters when food scarcity leads to cannibalistic behavior among these animals. Controlling the stray dog population in the region is crucial for their well-being.

Each sterilization procedure costs INR 2000, and the initiative aims to sterilize one dog for every two registrations at SnowTails. This not only addresses the issue of overpopulation but also ensures a more sustainable and humane environment for the local canine community.
